Meet Laetitia, Consultant – Reality Capture

Tell us a bit about your career journey.

I did not choose surveying; instead, surveying came to me! Back in France, after tertiary education, I focused on political studies, public administration and international relations, which got me into cadastral surveying. For ten years, I managed a team of cadastral surveyors, focusing on cadastral and building surveys. My responsibilities included maintaining and updating the French cadastral survey map, determining land taxes for private, commercial, and industrial properties, and verifying the cadastral work of licensed surveyors in France. This work is essential before registering subdivisions in the Land Registry. After ten years, I needed a change and wanted to explore the possibilities offered by surveying beyond the French cadastral surveying niche. That’s how my Australian adventure began after a bit of time in the UK to get my full surveying qualifications and a bit more work experience too.

The field of surveying inspires me to engage in projects that are often exciting, unique, or beneficial to the entire community, or sometimes a combination of both. As a result, I continually learn and improve my skills as a surveyor.

What’s your biggest career achievement/ highlight?

Relocating to Australia! Surveying here is far more challenging and diverse than anything I experienced in France and the UK. The size of the country and array of projects and tasks that we are involved in teach us resilience, thinking outside the box, and innovation, which are great abilities to have, even beyond surveying.

If you could go back in time and tell your younger self one thing, what would that be?

To get into surveying earlier, without waiting for it to ‘catch’ me! It’s easy to say this now with the insight I’ve gained, but our younger selves often feel uncertain about which path to take. I truly believe that what we are meant to do eventually catches up with us somehow. Sometimes, we need to be at the right place at the right time and meet the right people too. Be proactive and get out of your comfort zone to see what life has in store for you.

Laetitia’s story is a testament to the possibilities that await when we are open to opportunities and take a proactive approach to life. At Veris, we believe the most rewarding careers come opportunities that are challenging, exciting and rewarding.
