Meet Alice, Senior Consultant - Property Survey.
Tell us a bit about your career journey.
As a little girl, I dreamed of becoming an accountant like my mum. However, in Year 12, when I noticed that all my friends shared the same career aspiration, I knew I needed to explore a different path. My father, a civil engineer, suggested surveying, and I decided to take his advice and have never looked back. Throughout my career, I’ve found that surveying is a versatile profession that offers various career paths and a fantastic mix of fieldwork and office work.
I enjoy challenging myself, expanding my knowledge and learning new skills. I want to be prepared for the future, and for me, this means making progress in my career.
I’m a strong advocate for promoting surveying as a career. As an Industry Ambassador for the Surveying Careers WA Committee, I regularly volunteer my time to showcase surveying as an exciting and rewarding career choice. This often involves participating in career expos and informational events to connect with students, parents, and teachers, highlighting the opportunities available in the surveying field.
What’s your biggest career achievement?
I’ve recently become an Articled Surveyor, which marks the beginning of my pathway to becoming a Licensed Surveyor. It’s going to be a long journey, but I’m excited to learn more!
What advice would you give to young people wanting to start their career in this industry?
Believe in yourself, work hard and everything is possible.
Alice’s story is a powerful reminder that career paths are rarely linear, and true success comes from embracing opportunities. By challenging herself, staying open to new possibilities, and dedicating herself to continuous learning, Alice has not only carved out a remarkable career but also become an inspiration for the next generation of spatial science professionals.
